The Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce was founded in 1983 with a vision to give marginalized sections of students an opportunity to improve their educational and career prospects.  In the mad scramble for admissions many students with low percentages remain at the margins, become frustrated and eventually drop out. The underlying aim is to encourage and channelize the latent energy and talent of such students so as to mould them into responsible citizens who could stand on their feet and face the challenges of the future.

With this goal in mind the college mission aspires to prepare students not just for an examination or a career but for life itself by a threefold process : that of shaping their minds to be critical, their behaviour to be disciplined and their attitude to be well-mannered and cultured.

The motto “Knowledge enlightens” signifies that enlightened knowledge leads to commitment and service to society. It is intended that the academic as well as extracurricular knowledge imparted to students, shape their attitude and character, imbibing them with sterling and exemplary qualities which would enable them not only to find gainful employment but also to be an inspiration to other youth in making their contribution to society.
